About the Class
Our Levels classes are where all school age students new to Irish Dance begin their Irish Step Dancing adventure. There are 2 components of Irish Dance, "soft shoe" which is a little bit like Ballet without arm movement and "hard shoe" which influenced the creation of American Tap Dancing, but also without arm movement.
Dancers begin with soft shoe classes and progress to hard shoe once at an acceptable skill level.
Our Levels dancers apply their dance skills in a range of performance aspects including traditional and modern Irish Dance, in both a team and solo capacity and upon invitation, at public performances around Adelaide. Students have the opportunity and are encouraged to participate in dance exams and competitions.
There are 3 divisions of Levels classes with the option of moving onto either our Championship (high level competition) or our Level 4 Advanced Recreational divisions.
Students progress through the Levels 1-3 divisions at the teacher's discretion according to their ability and commitment. Within each component there are fundamental dances that all students are required to learn and master before progressing to the next Levels division. Students should anticipate a minimum of 2 soft shoe and 1 hard shoe class per week to progress through divisions.
Classes run for 1hr for solo and 2hrs for teams during SA school terms on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
We run Levels classes at our main hall in Clarence Gardens.

Class Divisions
Level 1:
Our program aims to immerse students in Irish Dance at a beginner level. There is a focus on discipline, rhythm and basic Irish dance technique that they learn through dance games, drills, and choreographed dances. These students have the opportunity to be able to participate in exams, competitions and the end of year concert.
Level 2:
Students must have satisfied the minimum requirements at a beginner level of Irish dancing and have mastered the fundamental dances required to progress. It is highly recommended that students begin the hard shoe component at this level if not already in Level 1.
Here, students have the opportunity to apply their dance skills in a range of performance capacities including dance exams, competitions, the end of year concert and upon invitation, within our competitive teams.
Level 3:
Students must have satisfied the minimum requirements at a Level 2 standard of Irish dancing and have mastered the fundamental dances required to progress. Invitation to Level 3 dancing requires both program components of soft shoe and hard shoe to be undertaken. Level 3 dancers continue to apply their skills in a range of performance aspects at dance exams, competitions, teams and upon invitation, at public performances around Adelaide. Students can decide to move on to Level 4 Advanced Rec. or Championship dancing.
Level 4: Advanced Rec. (Recreational)
Students have developed their Irish dancing skills at Level 3 in both components to a high standard. This division is an opportunity for students to continue their love of Irish Dance at an elevated standard without the expectation and commitment of Championship dancing.
Students continue to have the opportunity to participate in dance exams, competitions, teams and at public performances around Adelaide.
