About the Class

Our adult classes are an absolute hoot! The aim is to learn something new, have fun, socialise and get fit in the process. Classes are designed for the individual adult learner. Whether you’re looking for a bit of a laugh or to challenge yourself through fitness or cognitive learning, this class is suited for the absolute beginner to the returning ex-dancer.

Adults can learn basic steps through to an intermediate level of traditional and modern Irish Step Dancing. This includes both components of Irish Dance, "soft shoe" which is a little bit like Ballet without arm movement and "hard shoe" which influenced the creation of American Tap Dancing, but also without arm movement. Traditional “Ceili Dancing” which is a traditional form of synchronised Irish Dance is also included in class. *Think square dancing where you see dancers linking hands and arms and swinging each other around the dance floor!

Some of the current students are parents of children who are Irish Dancers themselves, but never learned when they were younger. Others have had no exposure to Irish Dance other than what they’ve seen in live shows or on the screen. We recommend anyone who is 16yrs+ learning as a beginner to join this class rather than Level 1 or 2 class due to the class maturity level.

Previously we included newly retired Championship dancers in this class, but a new class “Level 4, Advanced Recreational” for those with more advanced abilities is recommended. Please check out Levels for this class for further information and scheduling.

Classes run for 1hr during SA school terms on Monday evening.

Adults classes are held at our main hall in Clarence Gardens.
